Chelsea fans have turned on Maurizio Sarri following the 6-0 humiliation at The Etihad on Sunday. Chelsea fans booed the team off and left early after being thrashed 4-0 at half time.
A Sergio Aguero hat-trick, as well as goals from Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan, condemned Chelsea to their heaviest defeat in Premier League history as their misery on the road continued.
After the convincing 2-0 defeat to Arsenal and 4-0 humiliation at Bournemouth, Chelsea have now conceded an astonishing 12 goals in their last three away trips and subsequently dropped out of the top four.
Speaking after the game, Sarri issued an apology to the Chelsea fans after refusing to shake Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's hand, but couldn’t offer an explanation.
“I am doing my best and I’m trying to get the players to do their best but at the moment I can only say sorry because in the last three away matches we played very badly,” he told Talk Sport.
“It’s very difficult to describe our performance. It’s also very difficult to understand because during the week I really was very happy with the team.”
Chelsea Chairman Roman Abramovic has warned that "Sarri will be sacked if results don't improve". With club legends Gianfranco Zola and Frank Lampard being linked with the managers job.
